Knights of Columbus council presents donations to Dewey Lions

118 pairs of glasses to help needy people
May 21, 2017

At its monthly business meeting May 9, the Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 7296, based at St. Edmond Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, hosted a visit from Dewey Beach Lions Club King Lion Melissa Clink.

She was on hand to receive 118 pair of eyeglasses and two sets of lenses that the council had collected from its members and fellow parishioners since July 2016. At this same time last year, Clink's predecessor received 155 pairs of glasses, 16 empty frames and 55 pairs of unused lenses from Star of the Sea Council.

The Lions evaluate used optical products before distributing them to needy people abroad.

The council also collects used hearing aids, which are distributed to the needy by an agency in the Midwest, and cellphones that are donated to the Delaware State Police to support the 911 emergency call program for those living in domestic crisis situations.
