Koepka makes history

June 21, 2018

Golf
On Sunday, Brooks Koepka became the first person in 29 years to win back-to-back US Open golf tournament titles. Curtis Strange was the last person to accomplish this feat. Brooks has only one other PGA tournament win at the Phoenix Open with its crazy Super Bowl weekend fans and stadium seats. I hope he can live up to his potential and win a lot more.

Unfortunately, this year the US Open will be remembered more for the disappointing condition of the greens... again, and for Phil Mickelson's putting fiasco on Saturday. Obviously his behavior was uncalled for, but I hope the golf world can get over it pretty quickly.

Next year's Men's US Open is at the Pebble Beach golf links in California. I hope there is no controversy there about the course setup. Pebble Beach is so beautiful and a place that most golfers would LOVE to have a chance to play.

Basketball
The NBA draft is this week. I am not a huge fan of how close the Finals are to the draft. I think the NBA should give their champions more time to celebrate their accomplishment. Why can't they just wait until August to hold the draft? As an Eagles fan, that would be like the NFL having a draft at the very beginning of March instead of the end of April.

In any event, the NBA draft is only two rounds long. I actually got to see one of the players, who is going to be drafted, play at the Slam Dunk to the Beach basketball competition in Lewes two years ago. His name is Mo Bomba. He is projected to be drafted in the top five as a center. I will report who the 76ers draft next week.

Baseball
You know the Phillies are making good progress toward being a better team when ESPN has decided to broadcast this weekend's game against the Washington Nationals on Sunday night baseball. In order for the Phillies to become a legitimate contender, their overall defense HAS to improve! They can't keep giving their opponents extra outs with errors.

Soccer
Next week, I will start to report on the World Cup of Soccer. In the group stage, it is too difficult for me to predict any results. When the teams go on to the elimination round, I will give you my predictions on who will make it to the finals. I will be watching from the sidelines in our living room.

See you on the sidelines!
