Kuhns has the acumen Rehoboth needs

August 10, 2017

I am voting for Paul Kuhns Aug. 12. I want to tell you why.

And I hope you will join me in electing Paul our next mayor of Rehoboth Beach.

The candidates and the pundits all identify the same major issues facing our city: completion of the new City Municipal Complex; wastewater ocean outfall project; city finances, financial management, long-range planning; balancing quality of life with economic development (tourism).

It is not worth rehashing how the City of Rehoboth Beach got to where it currently is, and the errors in leadership and judgment that were made along the way. We need to look to the future. The critical issue facing us as voters is to determine what type of municipal leadership we want for the future. Paul Kuhns possesses the leadership qualities our city desperately needs: engagement, concern, commitment, compassion.

Over the past two years, my wife and I endured prolonged application processes, hearings, and appeals before the Building and Licensing Department, the Parks and Shade Tree Commission, the Board of Adjustment, and the Board of Commissioners. During this time, only one of our elected officials stepped forward in a meaningful way - Paul Kuhns.

On his own initiative, Paul attended some of our hearings and addressed the city officials and boards who were presiding over the various processes. Paul's concern for our situation, and for the public policy issues presented in our case, demonstrated to me that Paul is the type of person I want to lead our wonderful city's government.

We now have an opportunity to elect someone as extraordinarily qualified as Paul. Let's enable Paul to unleash his accounting and finance education, his more than 23 years of work experience in municipal finance, and his proven leadership of numerous organizations in our area and our state, for the benefit of Rehoboth Beach.

The citizens of Rehoboth Beach deserve a city government administered so that every voice is heard and every interest is considered, consistent with the city's laws and regulations. The citizens of Rehoboth Beach deserve elected city officials who will run our city openly and fairly based on best practices and transparency, in a democratic, participatory manner. And the citizens of Rehoboth Beach deserve city boards and commissions that will be led by members who will execute their duties in compliance with their board or commission's charter and the city's laws and regulations.

With Paul Kuhns as our mayor, the citizens of Rehoboth Beach will have an outstanding leader for the municipal government they deserve. Make certain you vote in the Aug. 12 election. And make certain you vote for Paul Kuhns for mayor. Too much of our city's future is riding on this mayoral election.
