Last Blast Labor Day 5K won by Francisco Puac

Awards for summer series follow race

The 27th Last Blast Labor Day Prediction Run 5K at Rehoboth’s Grove Park Sept. 2 beat the predicted rainstorm, which didn’t get cranked up until late morning.

Running fast on light training, Francisco Puac, 32, was the overall winner in 17:50, besting a field of 132 runners. He was followed by Sean Laffey in 18:17, Martin Rodriguez in 18:29, Kirk Millkan in 18:57, Moiber Rivera in 19:08 and Chris Stanley in 19:26.

Dr. Eve Hoffman, 31, was the first woman in 20:23. Hoffman was joined on the women’s leaderboard by Olivia Montini in 22:51, Megan Northshield in 23:23, Jackie Quigley in 23:25, Margaret Colvin in 23:27 and Abby Andrews in 23:45.

A Social Security showdown went down with trio Jack Huxtable, 79, in 27:14; Jim Batts, 75, in 27:15 and Alan Quillen, 62, in 27:26, who all ran within 12 seconds of each other.

Two Lindas finished together with the computed mat giving the nod to Linda Schwartz-Chi in 29:07 over Linda Stanley in 29:08.

The race concluded the Seashore Striders Summer Running Series, and trophies were awarded afterward.

The next Seashore Striders event is the Lewes Cannonball 5K at the Lewes Historical Society complex Sunday, Sept. 10.
