Learn about beach plum jelly in Lewes Dec. 14

JuneRose Futcher to talk about local family recipe
December 10, 2017

For great Lewes gifts that are locally sourced and inspired, one need look no further than the Lewes Historical Society Museum Store at 302 Savannah Road across from the Zwaanendael Museum in the heart of downtown Lewes. With items inspired by the society's collections and sourced from local vendors, artists and craftspersons, the store is the place to find that perfect gift for the person who loves Lewes.

JuneRose Futcher will be at the store from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 14, to talk about making beach plum jelly.

"The store has a great selection of art and gifts by local artists," said Museum Store Manager Suzanne Jones. "We are really excited to not only offer locally made items but have our visitors and guests have a chance to meet and talk with the people and creative minds behind them. JuneRose Futcher's wonderful stories about harvesting beach plums and her delicious family recipe capture the inspiration so many find here in Lewes."

Futcher will discuss the time-intensive process of harvesting the plums and how she transforms them into the sweet treat that generations of Lewestowners have come to enjoy. Beach plum habitat ranges from the Mid-Atlantic to the Canadian Maritimes. Jars of the spreadable jelly will be available for purchase, as will several prints of Lewes and Lewes Beach from Futcher's original photography work.

"All these items are uniquely Lewes – sure to bring a smile to the face of anyone who loves Lewes," said Futcher.

Beach plum jelly, original photography and other great Lewes items make wonderful holiday presents. For more information, call 302-645-7670 or visit historiclewes.org.
