Leonard R. Hecker Jr., retired chemist

Leonard R. Hecker Jr. (Len), 76, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at his home in Angola. A loving and devoted husband and father, Len retired from Johnson & Johnson after more than three decades of service as a research chemist and U.S. patent and trademark agent.

Born in Darby, Pa., Len graduated from Haverford High School in 1959. He was a 1963 bachelor of science in chemistry graduate of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, and earned his master of science degree from St. Joseph University in 1980. Len was an avid sport and saltwater fisherman, an active FCC amateur (ham) radio operator (Elite class, K3LRH), and a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Len is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of 52 years, Jean (Warmerdam); his daughter Sandra (Vincent) Carahaly; sons Christopher and Jeffrey (Sam Turdo); two granddaughters (Sophia and Stella Carahaly); two sisters, Doris and Marie; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard R. and Marie (McDonnell) Hecker; his son, Leonard R. Hecker III; and his sister Jeanne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, or the Tunnell Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
