Lewes in Bloom to exhibit at Lewes Tulip Celebration April 8

March 25, 2017

Lewes in Bloom volunteers planted nearly 20,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs in fall 2016 at the Kings Highway Gateway Garden and other gardens throughout Lewes. They will bloom over the next few weeks, weather dependent. During the Lewes Tulip Celebration, set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 8, in Zwaanendael Park, Lewes in Bloom will sell a variety of plants, merchandise such as T-shirts and sweatshirts, and some handcrafted garden-themed items.

Lewes in Bloom also will assist the city with the Tulip Dig on a date to be announced in April. Residents who love the explosion of tulips throughout Lewes in April and want to keep them blooming for years are invited to come to specific locations with a bag and a spade, and they will be able to dig any number of the thousands of bulbs planted throughout Lewes last fall, and take them home to their gardens.

Lewes in Bloom is a volunteer organization of more than 180 members. Each year its members volunteer hundreds of hours planting thousands of bulbs and plants throughout the city. It promotes the beautification and maintenance of Historic Lewes and the community at large. It is dedicated to helping Lewes boost its attractiveness through a variety of efforts including historical preservation, environmental awareness, a children's garden, floral displays and more. Lewes in Bloom will oversee the Garden for All Ages once it is finalized.

With Lewes in Bloom's assistance, Lewes won the America in Bloom Circle of Champions Award for small towns at the 2015 America in Bloom Symposium in Holland, Mich. For more information, go to lewesinbloom.org.
