Lewes in Bloom presents first Beauty Spot Award to Paul Roth of Mallard Point
Lewes in Bloom has presented its first Beauty Spot Award for this new program to Paul Roth of Lewes. Roth's residence is in Mallard Point on Mills Ridge Road. He has been working on the landscaping at his home for over seven years. His home was selected for the June 2016 Lewes in Bloom Beauty Spot Award due to his overall ingenious design and creativity used to landscape the property by maximizing all areas in sun, filtered sun and shade.
Key features include a living ivy espaliered wall; extensive landscaped beds throughout; a gorgeous 30-foot climbing hydrangea; outstanding deep blue hydrangeas; transplanted family heritage shrubs and plants; a wide variety of trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals with a number of pollinator plants; and care and attention in providing shelter, food and water for wildlife. His ideas maximized the potential of each area as he worked with shade, sun, poor soil, rocks, mature trees and water issues.
The Lewes in Bloom Beauty Spot Award launched with awards for June through October of 2016. Eligibility includes all residential properties in the greater Lewes 19958 ZIP code. Lewes in Bloom membership is not necessary, residents can self-nominate their property and members of the general public can nominate a resident property that catches their eyes. LIB Board of Advisors members and LIB Beauty Spot Selection Committee members are not eligible. Candidate residences can be owner or professionally designed and planted, but must be owner-maintained. Lewes in Bloom is a volunteer organization of more than 170 members who spent hundreds of hours in 2015 planting thousands of bulbs and plants throughout the city.
