Lewes Chamber of Commerce supports Cape marketing students

June 27, 2017

The Lewes Chamber of Commerce pledged to support Cape Henlopen High School's marketing students with funding to create a fully functioning school store. Now, the store inside the high school will have funds to purchase products and monitor inventory. This collaboration will help marketing students better understand how a real retail business operates.

Gavin Radka, Lewes chamber treasurer, said, "The chamber is thrilled to create a private and public collaboration at Cape Henlopen High School in an effort to bolster fiscal awareness and entrepreneurship."

Cape marketing teacher Gabriel Martinez said, "I am thrilled that the chamber of commerce will be partnering with the Cape Henlopen marketing pathway and school store starting in the 2017-18 school year. The support from businesses in the school will strengthen the skills and opportunities that our Cape students will have in the classroom. It will also allow us to be more responsive to the soft skills that our local businesses are looking for in our students and graduating workforce. Being able to fund a fully functioning merchandising enterprise in the school that mimics local businesses will allow our students to gain valuable experience and affords them the opportunity to try their hand at various aspects of entrepreneurial endeavors with the helpful guidance of the chamber and our school district."

Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation will oversee the disbursing of funds to the high school over the course of the school year.
