Lewes Dairy Christmas in July benefits Salvation Army

July 8, 2017

Santa and his elves, along with about 300 runners, walkers and kiddie runners, braved the heat and humidity to make the Lewes Dairy Christmas in July 5K and Family Party a success as they raised funds for the Salvation Army Toy Shop. The event was held at the American Legion Post 17 in Lewes.

“It was a real family event,” said organizer Sherry Hastings. “We wanted to bring the community together for a really fun time. It was a very successful event.”

Races2Run hosted a Kiddie K along with a 5K and a walking event. After the races, the children’s activities included face painting, egg toss, whipped cream pie-eating contest and ball toss. Ice cream, Lewes Dairy egg nog, Christmas cookies and many other treats and drinks were available for all to enjoy.

The Salvation Army Toy Shop helped 35,000 families in Delaware last year. Teaming with the Lewes Dairy and Hy-Point Family made for a successful event. “The Lewes Dairy and Hy-Point Farms Family believes in giving to the less fortunate,” said Hastings. “It was so fun and we had such support that we are already looking forward to next year.”
