Lewes farmers market to jazz it up Oct. 14

October 11, 2017

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market organizers welcome audiences of the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival to its special jazz weekend market from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 14, in the parking lot of the Shields Elementary School off Savannah Road at Sussex Drive in Lewes. Convenient parking can be found at the adjacent Lewes School parking lot. Visitors will be able to shop for the freshest produce available while enjoying the seductive musical notes of national recording artist, jazz saxophonist Will Donato, who will entertain from 10 a.m. until noon.

The market continues its fall season at Shields with over 24 vendors through Saturday, Nov. 18. Shoppers' favorite market vendors will be there offering all the bounties of fall harvest: carrots, fresh ginger, sweet potatoes, lettuces, broccoli, cauliflower, winter squashes including pumpkins, artisanal cheeses, apples, pears, cider, lamb, pork, oysters, freshly laid eggs, breads, jams and jellies, pastries, milk, yogurt and beautiful flowers for the table.

For the remainder of the 2017 season, there will be no Children's Reading Program, demonstrations or bagels.

The market offers the SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the market to pick up the bonus $20. In addition to SNAP, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market welcomes participants in Delaware's Women, Infants and Children program. Through Saturday, Oct. 28, WIC coupons can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the market.
