Lewes Historical Society wins People's Choice Award at Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival

November 22, 2017

Members of the Lewes Historical Society's Wooden Boat Program brought home the coveted People's Choice Award at the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival held at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., in early October for their Delaware Ducker.

"We're so proud of our incredible volunteers who have donated hundreds of hours toward this incredible project," said Society Executive Director Mike DiPaolo. "The Delaware Ducker, built from the keel up as a new boat, was clearly a hit of the show and demonstrates the immense talent and dedication we have as part of our wooden boat program."

The Delaware Ducker was built in part with funds from PNC's Grow Up Great Grant Initiative. The Wooden Boat Program at the Lewes Historical Society has helped restore older small wooden boats including an historic, c.1900 Ducker, exhibited at the Lewes History Museum. The boat program has also hosted Family Boat Building Weekend, and has worked with dozens of school children from across Sussex County to pass along the boat-building tradition of coastal Sussex.
