Lewes library carnival a great success

October 12, 2017

On behalf of the Lewes Public Library staff and board of commissioners, I would like to thank everyone who made the library's 4th Annual Old-Fashioned Community Carnival a huge success. We had over 500 children, parents and grandparents join us on a beautiful fall day and play old-fashioned games on the library grounds.

Thank you to the following local businesses and organizations that sponsored the event, making it free for everyone to attend: the Friends of the Lewes Public Library; Baker Petroleum; Coastal Kids Pediatric Dentistry; Beacon Pediatrics LLC; First Church of Christ, Scientist; Kids Cottage; Lefty's Alley & Eats; Ahl and O'Connor Orthodontics; American Legion Auxiliary Unit 5; Andrew S. Malinowski, DDS; Candy Kitchen Shoppes Inc.; Coldwell Banker Resort Realty; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 646; Rehoboth Beach VFW Auxiliary Post 7447; Sussex Eye Center; and VFW Post 7447.

Thank you also to 2 Dips Ice Cream and Lefty's Alley & Eats for providing food to our attendees; to Ray Daminger, Terri Colegrove, and the Cape Gazette for their assistance with publicity; and to Grand Rental Station for the carnival equipment. Our family-style carnival included energetic performances by Sankofa African Dance Company and Coastal Dance Academy which were enjoyed by all.

We also would like to thank the Lewes Fire Department, Beebe School of Nursing, Cape Henlopen State Park, The Factory, Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, The Lewes Historical Society, MERR Institute, Milton Historical Society, VFW Post 7447 of Rehoboth Beach, and Squeaky Balloon Twister for setting up interactive displays and exhibits.

Finally, we could not have organized, set up, run, or cleaned up the carnival without the support of our dedicated volunteers. Thank you to the library's Community Carnival Committee for all their hard work throughout the year planning the event. We extend gratitude to the Cape High School JRTOC and National Honor Society members, as well as to students from Sussex Academy, for volunteering with us to make our carnival run smoothly.

Thank you to all who came to our carnival and made it our most successful one ever.
