Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary plans dedication ceremony May 24

Flags for Heroes project features 500 flags in time for Memorial Day

Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club will have its annual Flags for Heroes dedication ceremony at 4:15 p.m., Thursday, May 24, in front of Cape Henlopen High School along Kings Highway, Lewes. The ceremony will end at 5:15 p.m. with the playing of taps.

Club volunteers and Cape Henlopen High School JROTC members placed 500 flags in front of the high school on May 26. Each one of the flags has a medallion attached to it listing the name of the donor and their personal hero.

The event includes dedication of the flags on behalf of the Delaware Technical Community College Veterans Center, the Greatest Generation by World War II veteran Tom Creekmore of Long Neck, veterans and active duty military and police, firefighters and other first responders.

Art and poetry competition winners from local schools will be announced.

The event will take place rain or shine. The club uses proceeds from the project to support local charities. The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club meets 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays at Irish Eyes in Lewes.
