Lightship Overfalls 80th Birthday Bash fundraiser set May 25

May 16, 2018

The Overfalls Foundation is proud to announce that Community Bank Delaware has agreed to sponsor its annual fundraising event celebrating the 80th anniversary of the launch of LV118, known locally as Lightship Overfalls. The 80th Birthday Bash and Benefit gala event and auction, set for 6 p.m., Friday, May 25, at the University of Delaware Virden Center in Lewes, will celebrate the opening of the summer season in Lewes.

Tickets are $50 in advance, and are available at Kids’ Ketch and the Lewes Chamber of Commerce. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.overfalls.org, or by calling Sue at 302-593-7962. If tickets are still available the night of the event, they will be $55 at the door.

The fun-filled evening will feature lively music by 33-1/3, finger-lickin’ food, thirst-quenchin’ wine and beer, and fantastic live and silent auction items, all included in the single ticket price! A 4-digit Delaware license plate, sailing lessons, Redskins tickets, wonderful dining experiences, a Virden House champagne brunch, and a water taxi tour are just a few of the items up for bidding. Beautiful baskets, home furnishings and artwork, dining cards, and gift certificates for many local businesses are also available for bids.

Lewes is proud to be the home of the Lightship Overfalls, a National Historic Landmark, one of just eight remaining floating lighthouses open to the public as a museum. Funds raised at this event help to preserve and maintain the Lightship Overfalls in Lewes Canalfront Park, and support the educational activities of the newly expanded American Lightship Museum.

Community Bank Delaware is proud to be the title sponsor for this event. Shannon McGinn, vice president and human resources director, said, “The Overfalls Foundation is a great example of local people making a difference in our community. Their preservation of the lightship and its history are important. This is a true example of why community matters.”
