Lillian Amelia “Amy” Davis Blight, 95, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, in Elkton, Md.
Lillian was born in Milledgeville, Pa., daughter of the late Gates C. and Ida Campbell Gilmore, and the stepdaughter of the late Emilie Mitchell Gilmore.
She attended two one-room country schools with her mother as her first grade teacher from whom she inherited her love for learning. She graduated from Westtown Friends School, Westtown, Pa., and Keystone Secretarial School, Swarthmore, Pa. (now Chubb Institute, Springfield, Pa.). She graduated from Beacom College in Wilmington after World War II in 1947.

While still in Hawaii, she was able to board the USS Battleship Missouri when it returned to Pearl Harbor from Japan after the signing of the Peace Treaty.
Lillian went on to raise her family of four children in Severna Park, Md., and later in Rehoboth and Lewes, where she was very active with her family and community. Her career included working as a secretary for the head of the legal department of Penn Mutual Fire Ins. Co in West Chester, Pa., and at Williams Insurance Company in Rehoboth.
Her favorite pastime included working on the family genealogy from Scotland, volunteering at the local library and reading. Her grandchildren called her "Marmie" from her favorite book Little Women.
Lillian also played the piano and the cello in the Newark High School Orchestra. She enjoyed listening to music throughout her lifetime, and had a vast record collection that included classical, big band, ragtime and Scottish clan music.
Upon retirement she moved to Milford and Rehoboth to be near her children where she was a member of Christ Church. She was a lifetime member of the WAVES National and First State Waves Unit 10 Wilmington. She was also a member of US Clan Morrison (Gilmore) and the Clan Campbell (NA).
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Humphreys Davis III and Edward Stevens Blight; brother Rex D. Gilmore; and sister, Helen Thorne.
