Lillian "Lill" Hoopman, active in her community

Lillian "Lill" Hoopman, 74, of Charleston, S.C., entered into glorious rest with her Savior Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017.

Lill was born in Santa Ana, Calif., to the late John E. "Jack" and Lillian M. Burris. She graduated from Milford High School and enjoyed Girl Scouts, American Legion Auxiliary, Girls State, and varsity field hockey and basketball.

Upon graduating from the University of Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in education, she taught 12th grade history at Perry Hall High School in Maryland. Following her teaching career, Lill enjoyed caring for her family in Kingsville, Md. For a decade, she helped organize local designer show houses to benefit the American Cancer Fund.

Lill served on the board of directors of Burris Logistics for 38 years. Alongside her parents, brothers, and Burris Logistics employees, Lill enjoyed volunteering for 30 years at the Milford Hospital Fair. Lill treasured her many family beach memories as a lifetime summer resident of Lewes, and in retirement on Kiawah Island, S.C. During the last decade, she enjoyed the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Kiawah Island photography club and golf. In 2016, Bob and Lill transitioned to their new home, Bishop Gadsden, a life care retirement community.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Robert L. "Bob" Hoopman; a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Stephanie Hoopman of West Chester, Pa.; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Jane Hoopman of Middletown; and six grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Cathy Burris, and Howard and Debbie Burris; and sister-in-law Susan Burris, the wife of the late Robert D. Burris.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 10:30 a.m., at the New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3072 Savannah East Drive, Lewes. A receiving line for visiting with the family and a reception will immediately follow services in the church's fellowship hall. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
