Lilly Ruth Williams, ambitious woman

June 13, 2017

Lilly Ruth Williams, 70, departed this life into the peaceful and loving arms of Christ Jesus Friday, June 9, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes. She was born Jan. 27, 1947, in Engelhard, N.C.

That same year, her family transitioned to Delaware. As a child, she attended Richard Allen Elementary School and later, William C. Jason as a high school student. In Denton, Md., Oct. 22, 1971, she married the love of her life, her "boo", Robert Williams. They purchased a home in Harbeson, and began their life together.

Mrs. Lilly was an ambitious woman with a heart of gold. She worked at various poultry industries before she became an entrepreneur. She owned a beauty salon on Booker Street in Georgetown, and she was a daycare provider. Mrs. Lilly worshiped at Friendship Baptist Church, sang in the choir, became a deaconess, and also a missionary.

She constantly stayed busy. You could often find her sewing, fishing, cooking, supporting the Dallas Cowboys, gardening, watching "The Stories," listening to music, "trying" to play the keyboard, coloring, and trying to get to the next level on Pudding Pop. What she enjoyed most of all was the quality time spent with her family.

Mrs. Lilly was preceded in death by her parents: James Gibbs Sr. and Ola Gibbs; two brothers: James Gibbs Jr. and Wilbert Gibbs; her sister Kay Purnell; and son, Wayne Gibbs. She leaves to cherish her husband of 46 years, her children: Anthony (Monique) Gibbs, Lloyd (Tanya) Gibbs, Michael (Stephanie) Gibbs, and Patricia (Anthony) Wright, her adopted sons, Tione and Deon Williams, and one daughter-in-law, Candi Gibbs. She also leaves 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, seven siblings, two aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 17, at noon, at Friendship Baptist Church, 500 West 4th St., Lewes. Family and friends may visit or call two hours prior to the service.
