Local artists support fundraising efforts of Art in Bloom

Works on display at Peninsula Gallery in Lewes
March 4, 2018

Now that funds have been raised to purchase the kinetic wind sculptures that will be unveiled at the new trailhead near the Lewes Public Library in April, Art in Bloom is continuing to raise money to purchase future pieces of public art in Lewes. Two prominent local artists have donated work that will be on display at the Peninsula Gallery for sale during March. A full 100 percent of the sale proceeds will go to Art in Bloom.

Richard Calvo's distinctive photograph "October Mist" is contemplative and silent. It is an example of the landscapes he has been creating for more than 50 years. His work has been compared to that of Robert Frost and Andrew Wyeth, having a deceptively simple style which becomes a vehicle for a more complex and demanding sense of reality.

Calvo is a master printer who believes his compositions are no more important than the techniques he uses to express them. He believes in the integrity of each piece and he prints them individually, giving each its own, distinct personality. "October Mist" is the first in an edition which will be limited to four.

Nick Serratore is a full-time artist working in the medium of pastel. He is known for his atmospheric landscapes of southern Delaware and is struck by the remarkable palette of colors, the vast array of textures and the ever-changing patterns of light and shadow found in this area. In the past several years, he has focused on a series of wildflower pieces. These large-scale paintings depict vast fields of flowers in shimmering tones and it is the latest of these creations that he is donating to raise funds for Art in Bloom.

As Artist in Residence, Serratore has recently had three of his works installed in the Delaware Public Archives building in Dover.

The Peninsula Gallery is in the Shops at the Beacon on Savannah Road, just across the canal bridge in Lewes. For more information, go to www.peninsula-gallery.com or call 302-645-0551.
