Local choirs to remember 9/11 victims in concert set Sept. 11

September 6, 2016

On the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., two Sussex county choirs will combine to remember those who died.

The concert will take place at 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes. Members of St. Peter's adult choir, directed by T.J. Thomas, will collaborate with singers from the Southern Delaware Chorale, directed by Joey Shortall, in a concert featuring 19th century French composer Gabriel Fauré's "Messe de Requiem."

Presented in the context of a concert, Fauré's masterpiece, composed between 1887 and 1890, is a choral-orchestral setting of the Roman Catholic Mass for the Dead sung in Latin. An orchestra composed of University of Delaware graduate students under the direction of Shortall will accompany the combined choirs and soloists.

The church is at Second and Market streets, Lewes, and a free-will offering will be received at the door. For more information, call 302-645-8479.
