Local students assist at dinner to benefit Ballard Community Fund

May 16, 2018

A fund created to honor the late Delaware State Police Cpl. Stephen Ballard held its first major fundraiser April 20 at White Clay Creek Country Club in Wilmington. Ballard’s widow Louise Cummings created the Ballard Community Fund to help youth organizations throughout Delaware and donated $25,000 to kick-start the program.

Three youth received special invitations to help with the sold-out event. They are Parker Keygan Schmidt of Mariner Middle School, Miranda Rose Schmidt of H.O. Brittingham Elementary School, and JROTC Marine Corps Cadet George Ayers of First State Military Academy.

Many distinguished guests attended, including members of the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, Delaware governors, Col. Nathaniel McQueen Jr. of the Delaware State Police, law enforcement members and their families.
