Long & Foster Bethany Beach to take part in community service day June 6

May 26, 2018

Long & Foster Real Estate will participate in the company’s 21st annual community service day Wednesday, June 6. Team members from the Bethany Beach office will join more than 220 Long & Foster offices in the day of giving back by gathering donations from agents, family and friends for the CHEER Center in Georgetown.

Last year, the CHEER Center fed 4,800 Sussex County senior citizens. Each of the 332,000 meals was produced in CHEER’s central kitchen. The expanding senior population in Sussex has outgrown the capacity of the kitchen, which needs to be expanded and modernized. Diane Jenkins, branch secretary, said the team members at Long & Foster’s Bethany Beach office hope that its agents, family and friends will help the CHEER Center meet or even exceed its $1.4 million goal.

Long & Foster sales associates and employees from throughout the company will participate in a variety of volunteer activities that day. In past years, these activities included cleaning up, refurbishing and repairing nearby parks, schools, shelters, homes and day-care centers, and providing other assistance to local organizations that offer crucial services to the community.

“Since our founding in 1968, we’ve been dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we live and work, and our annual community service day event is one example of how we do that,” said Jeff Detwiler, president and CEO of the Long & Foster Companies, parent company of Long & Foster Real Estate. “Community service day allows our team to make a positive impact on our local communities, and our agents and employees thoroughly enjoy this opportunity to contribute their time and effort. Whether it’s through our annual community service day or one of our other charitable projects, we’re truly glad to give back.”
