Long Neck Strong sets Community Safety Day Oct. 28

October 23, 2017

As a way of bringing the community together, Long Neck Strong will hold a Community Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, at American Legion Post 28 on Route 24, Millsboro.

Delaware State Police and Indian River Volunteer Fire Department will be there. Representatives from Lewes Cycle Sports will promote bike safety. Damsel in Defense, a martial arts instructor, will discuss self-defense. Concord Pet Supply will give tips on pet safety. Rite Aid and Sussex Pharmacy will be providing flu shots and blood pressure monitoring. Legum & Norman Community Management will provide information about community watch and child safety. Attack Addiction will be present to discuss the dangers of drugs. A physical therapist will educate attendees about keeping their bodies safe. Clothing Our Kids will be on hand to answer questions about keeping elementary school children warm and clothed if they are in need. There will be entertainment for children, a bake sale and food vendors.

The grassroots organization Long Neck Strong was formed in response to a sudden increase in crime which frightened and unsettled the community earlier this year. Businesses and homes were affected by armed robberies and break-ins, most of which were drug-related. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers and the outstanding support of the Delaware State Police, Long Neck has had no further armed robberies or violent crime since April.
