Lonnie E. Hopkins, worked as handyman

Lonnie E. Hopkins, 57, of Millsboro, known to the family as "Lonnie," was born to Paul Clifton Hopkins and Laura Snead-Hopkins Feb. 6, 1960. Lonnie departed this life Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes.

Lonnie attended Sussex Central High School, Georgetown. He was a former employee of Allen's Poultry Plant, Harbeson, and Parker Block Co., Millsboro.

During his time of unemployment, he worked as a handyman working on cars, cutting grass and doing odd jobs around the community for anyone who needed him. His favorite pastimes were watching old TV shows like Andy Griffith Show, Sanford & Son, Westerns and Joel Osteen. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandson, Noah.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hopkins Sr.; sister Janice Hopkins-Tingle; and brother, Paul C. Hopkins Jr. Left to cherish his memories are his mother, Laura Hopkins; partner and friend, Andrea Wright; one daughter, Yolanda Hopkins-Oney; one son, Hasan Oney; three sisters, Joan Hopkins-Melbourne and husband Edward, Stephanie Hopkins and friend Keith, Jacqueline Hopkins-Williams and husband Ivory; six grandchildren: Noah Oney, Zyhir Oney, Daejiahya Curtis, Ta'maya Curtis, Amirrah Curtis and Hasan Oney Jr.; and one great-grandchild Ariyah Curtis. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held at noon, Friday, March 24, at St. John's 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon for visitation and viewing. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
