Louvan E. ‘Lou’ Nolting, proficient in languages

Louvan E. "Lou" Nolting, 90, of Lewes, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital, Compassionate Care Hospice Unit, in Wilmington. He was born Thursday, Aug. 18, 1927, in Rollett, N.D., son of the late August and Emma (Wentz) Nolting.

Mr. Nolting was raised on a farm in North Dakota. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, later retiring from the U.S. government after 65 years of service. Mr. Nolting was a prolific reader and collector of books. He was proficient in several languages, and was self-taught in Mandarin (Chinese) and Hindi (India). He was a member of the Society of Federal Linguists and was very active in prior years in church-related work. He was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Nolting is survived by his wife Gail E. (Garvey) Nolting of Lewes; his sister, Mary Anne (Stuart) Sanders of Lawn Prarie, Minn.; and his three nieces, Suzanne, Julieanne and Roxanne. He is also survived by his special cat Stardust.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, at 11:30 a.m., at Lewes Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. Nolting's memory to Beebe Hospital Building Fund, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
