Love Creek students treated to the sounds of music

Quartet fascinates classes wtih live performance
January 31, 2018

Fingers snapped and toes tapped as students at Love Creek Elementary got a taste of chamber music with a Latin twist.

The Dali Quartet visited the school Jan. 19 to give students a preview of the group's upcoming concert. The quartet is from the Philadelphia area, and it focuses on outreach to communities, offering its blend of classical music.

“We are so happy to be here today to play this preview concert for you,” said Adriana Linares, a viola player and spokeswoman for the group.

Linares was joined by Domenic Salerni and Carlos Rubio on violin and Jesus Morales on cello as they played songs, sometimes infused with a salsa beat.

Love Creek music teacher Kaitlin Kresse said the opportunity for her students to hear live music was invaluable.

“We're studying instrument families, and it was a great chance for students to hear music in real life,” she said.

More than 200 first- and third-graders listened to the quartet and learned about each of the string instruments. Louise Foster, former Cape High choral director and now a spokeswoman for Coastal Concerts, which sponsored the Dali Quartet concert, said she would like to see Cape Henlopen School District offer an orchestra program for students.

“Learning a string instrument would be a great opportunity for students,” she said.
