Lullaby students learn and give back with Earth Day projects

April 30, 2018

For two weeks leading up to Earth Day, preschool students at Lullaby Learning Center in Harbeson demonstrated their knowledge and support for environmental protection. With the guidance of their teachers, students of all age groups participated in several projects honoring the importance of global awareness.

Ranging from school and community projects to worldwide initiatives, Lullaby students were immersed in themed curriculum, academic lessons and hands-on learning activities. The school’s 4-acre property provides space for a supplementary nature-based curriculum.

Each classroom decorated recycling cans for the schoolwide recycling program and decorated pots for the tree replanting initiative. Students designated an area for composting, constructed bird feeders out of recyclable materials, built and planted raised garden beds, and planted their first set of vegetables.

Lullaby parents participated in the Earth Day celebrations by volunteering during a staff in-service day, and helping teachers prepare the students’ enormous outdoor area for spring learning. Together, Lullaby staff and families created outdoor learning centers that include a mud kitchen, art easels, a music station, tic-tac-toe tables, multiple sand, water and sensory tables, and an extension to the school’s existing bike path.
