Rasheed Woods broke off tackle early in the game versus Polytech, as the voice of announcer Andy Lewis bellowed all the way to the Delaware Bay “Touchdown by No. 2 LuLu Woods.” LuLu is a nickname was given to Rasheed during his freshman year when he transferred into Cape from Hawaii.

Lulu’s game stats were impressive: 170 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns, and that was just the first half. The Vikings led 37-0 at halftime, which was the final, and Cape moves to 3-1 on the season and awaits a Friday night home contest against rival and nemesis Sussex Central. The Golden Knights are also 3-1 after beating Sussex Tech 49-14.

“Rasheed had been our best football player on both sides of the ball and in the offseason,” said coach Bill Collick of his senior running back and outside linebacker. “He just never stops playing hard. He had an ACL injury and surgery his sophomore season and just kept hitting the weight room. A quiet leader who leads by example - he is that guy.”

Cape threw a new wrinkle into the old Wing T offense in the first half by using a direct snap to Woods and allowing him to pick his way through the defense.

Cape’s Robbie Neall also scored for the Vikings in the first half on a 20-yard run. Following a tackle in the end zone for a safety by Rasheed Woods, quarterback Dylan Adams found Zach Dale for a 43-yard touchdown strike to round out the scoring.

Cape accounted for another 100 yards rushing by feeding the ball to Kolbi Wright, five rushes for 26 yards; Parker Savage, two rushes for 23 yards; Jerry Harden two rushes for 24 yards; Robbie Neall, one rush for 20 yards; and Davion West-Nailon, two rushes for 20 yards.

Freshman Hunter Simmons was 5-for-5 on extra points.

Sussex Central is led by a trio of senior running backs that include Tim Jones, Kendrique Nocks and Brady Bowden.

The Golden Knights beat Cape last year 34-7.

“Defense wins the game. We have to shut down or slow down their running game and hope we can get a few things doing,” Collick said.
