M. Hunter Kesmodel, rehabilitated houses

June 20, 2017

M. Hunter Kesmodel, 77, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017, at his home in Rehoboth Beach, after a long battle with advanced Parkinson's and its resulting consequences.

Hunter was born in Baltimore, Md., June 7, 1940. He spent his formative years growing up in Severna Park, Md., where he attended Severn School where his father had taught, coached and served as headmaster. In his youth, in the summer he regularly competed in Severn River swim meets and when older managed the Severn Swim Club.

He graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with a bachelor’s degree in 1968. He then went on to teach social studies in the Anne Arundel County School System in Maryland until his retirement in 2001.

Hunter was a very creative individual who had a knack for rehabbing older residences and fashioning them into showplaces. He did this in Ellicott City, Md., also in Otterbein in Baltimore's Inner Harbor as well as in Bolton Hill in central Baltimore. He also rehabbed his house in Lewes and was selected for the annual house tour, and finally in Rehoboth Beach.

Hunter is preceded in death by both his parents, Paul and Katherine Kesmodel of Severna Park; as well as his longtime partner James Graves. He leaves behind five siblings: PJ Kesmodel of Rehoboth Beach, Robert Kesmodel of Miami Beach, Fla., Ned Kesmodel of Rehoboth Beach, Kate Ellsworth of Duluth, Ga., and Molly Kesmodel of Alpharetta, Ga.

Services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
