Mabel Elizabeth Layton, cherished her family

Mabel Elizabeth Layton, 94, of Frankford died Sunday, April 15, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes. Born in Selbyvillle, May 17t 1923, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Dora D. Hudson.

Mabel attended Selbyville School until she married in March 1940. She worked in many capacities throughout her years; she was head of a chicken vaccinating crew, a waitress, a laundry delivery person, house cleaner and a substitute mail driver. However, her most cherished job was taking care of her family. She was a member of the Ocean View Church of Christ and was a Sunday school teacher there for 55 years. She loved cutting grass on her riding lawn mower in the summer and did so until 2015.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Charles Layton; her half-sister, Laura Hitchens; and her son-in-law, Alan Daisey.

She is survived by three children, Sanda Layfield and her husband Jimmy, Gary Layton and his wife Sharon, and Vickie Daisey. She is also survived by one grandson, Garrett Layton; two granddaughters, Tomi Kay Morse and her husband Tom, and Dawn Howard and her husband Fred; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m., at the Ocean View Church of Christ, 55 West Ave., Ocean View, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Minister Art Decker will officiate. Interment will follow at St. George’s Cemetery in Clarksville.
