Man in critical condition following hit-and-run near Lincoln

January 1, 2018

A New Castle man is in critical condition after police say he was struck by a vehicle Dec. 31 as he walked along Route 113 near Lincoln.

The man, 21, was walking at 5:44 p.m. northbound on Route 113 near East Hudson Pond Road when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on U.S. 113, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

Jaffe said the vehicle pulled over on a nearby shoulder before fleeing northbound.

The man was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital and later flown to the Christiana Hospital for further treatment.

The striking vehicle is described as an unknown make and model that is maroon/red in color. The vehicle should have front-end damage to the hood, bumper and lights. The vehicle is also missing a driver’s side mirror and may have a ruptured radiator, Jaffe said.

Troopers continue to collect and analyze evidence at the scene to determine the make and model of the vehicle.

Northbound Route 113 in the area of East Hudson Pond Road was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. They are attempting to locate the driver and vehicle that fled this crash and ask anyone with information to contact Sgt. A. Mendez at 302-703-3269.  Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, or on the internet at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
