Many concerns about Overbrook Town Center

February 9, 2018

On Tuesday, Feb. 27, the Overbrook Town Center rezoning will be up for another vote.

I realize something eventually will be placed on this parcel of farmland. You can witness the growth in our area with housing on Kings Highway area, Beaver Dam Road, Route 9 and what is happening with traffic at Five Points. I understand growth could help our school and employment in this area. I get it!

My concerns are the following; if stores are to be built on this valuable land, why hasn't any big flagship store committed to this project? If stores are to be built, why do stores change so often at Tangers Outlets for example? We hear in the news so often that big chain stores are closing across the country or downsizing. With our poor public transportation in this area, how would folks be able to get to this area to work? Could their salaries support living close to their work? We all know how expensive homes and rentals are in this area. Previously, it was reported that the builder would give approximately $8 million for the new traffic patterns resulting from this center, yet DelDOT estimates were greater than $16 million plus. Where would the rest of this money for this project come from?

I encourage you to check out www.know-otc.org for more information. Thank you OTC for keeping us posted and your work in this matter.
