Margaret Frances Simpson, known for her cooking

May 8, 2018

Margaret Frances Simpson, of Millsboro, formerly of Wilmington, born Aug. 28, 1918, in Stockton, Md., passed away peacefully Sunday, May 6, 2018, this being her 100th year.

She is preceded in death by husband Carroll B. Simpson; parents, Florence Priscilla and William Henry Dryden; sons-in-law, Stanley McMinn and William Bernard; as well as her 13 brothers and sisters.

Margaret was a woman of strong faith. After raising her family in Wilmington, she spent the last nearly 50 years "at the beach" in Delaware where she was instrumental as a charter member of the Long Neck United Methodist Church. She took great pride in raising money through yard sales, bake sales and chicken and dumpling dinners to help raise money for the church building fund.

Margaret loved planting flowers, raising vegetables and bird watching with her great love, Lesley - the perfect cat! She was an avid reader, and enjoyed visits from friends and relatives. She had a steady stream of grandchildren in the summer visiting Mom Mom and Pop Pop. She was always happy to cook up your catch of the day...as long as you cleaned the fish! Many of us know her for her cooking. She would start in the kitchen early to prepare food for anyone hungry. She loved baking bread and cooking for holidays. She was still preparing food this past Thanksgiving and Christmas. We all loved her slippery dumplings!

Margaret is survived by her four daughters: Carole Ann McMinn, Joan Bernard, Priscilla Parker (James), and Susan LaFontaine (Roy). She is survived by grandchildren William McMinn, Robert McMinn, Michael McMinn, Stephen McMinn, Ted Elder, Susan Liebesman, Amy Elliott and Jamie Parker. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, good friends and Lesley her cat.

A visitation will be held Friday, May 11, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Long Neck United Methodist Church, 32051 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, where the funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions in Margaret's name to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
