Margaret H. Smith, retired correspondent

Margaret H. Smith, 85, of Lewes, formerly of Port Republic, Md., passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. Margaret was born in Washington, D.C., Jan. 12, 1932, daughter of the late Francis and Jessie D. (Farrell) Hall. She retired as a correspondent for the Rufus S. Lusk Real Estate Company in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Chapel Green Home Owners Association, and a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Millsboro. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edgar M. Smith; a grandson, Christopher Mitterer; a son, Brian T. Smith; and four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by three children, Mary D. Mitterer, Susan A. Cave, Mark E. Smith and his wife Sherry; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Smith; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Mitterer, William Cave, Robert Cave Jr., Robert Smith, Tiffany Anderson-Smith, Matthew Smith, Jessie Smith and Jamie Smith; and seven great-grandchildren, Kara Cave, Finn Smith, Caitlin Cave, Skylar Mitterer, Kiley Smith, Landon Anderson and Bryce Anderson.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 18, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where the rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 19, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro. Interment will follow at All Saints' Cemetery near Harbeson.
