Marie-Louise Kelley, lived fearlessly

June 19, 2018

Marie-Louise Kelley, 87, passed peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford Thursday, June 7, 2018, survived by her loving family: husband, Lester T. Kelley; sister Suzanne; sons, Manik Roy and Robin Roy; daughters-in-law Natalie Roy and Cathy Zoi; stepson, Gary Kelley and his wife, Sally Louise Kelley; five grandchildren; a step grandson; a granddaughter-in-law; and a grandson-in-law.

Ms. Kelley was born in Belgium in 1931, and spent much of her youth in war-time Brussels. She earned her Ph.D. in nuclear physics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, which is also where she met her first husband, the late Dr. Radha Roy. After emigrating with her family to the United States in 1958, she lived in State College, Pa., Phoenix, Ariz., and Williamsburg and Poquoson, Va., before retiring with Mr. Kelley to Rehoboth Beach in 1990.

Along the way, she served as a school volunteer, taught special education, programmed computers for NASA, and toured internationally with Mr. Kelley as a square dancer. Despite her many achievements and talents, she was a modest person, more comfortable knitting sweaters for her grandchildren than being in the limelight. She died as she lived - fearless, with great and often-surprising humor, and very dearly loved.

A private memorial service was held shortly after her passing. Her family requests that any donations in her memory be sent to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803, or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lode Chapel, Lewes.
