Mariner girls’ basketball falls to Smyrna

February 17, 2018

The Mariner girls ran into a buzzsaw in the second half of their Capital Classic matchup with Smyrna Middle, dropping a 30-13 game at Mariner.

Taoshaye Trader led the Vikings with six points. Akira Perry hit a three-pointer, while Regan Ciabattoni and Kelly Bragg each had two points. India Johnson scored eight for the Eagles.

Mariner went into the locker room at the halftime break down 13-11, but could only score two points in the second half to Smyrna’s 17.

“I was proud how we battled back,” said Mariner coach Katie Tingle, whose team came to within two in the second quarter. “They didn’t give up, but when India [Johnson] came in in the second half, they lifted their game.”
