Mariner hockey downs Selbyville and Sussex Academy

Vikings remain undefeated at 4-0
October 8, 2016

Mariner Middle field hockey team hosted Selbyville Oct. 3. The Vikings immediately took control of the game, as they carried the ball deep into the Selbyville territory. Their first goal was scored within the first 10 minutes of the game by Jhayden Holloman with an assist by Samantha Connors. The midfield controlled the pace of the game and kept the pressure on the Selbyville defense. The passing skills of Reagan Ciabattoni and Lori Sapp paid off with less than three minutes left in the first half, as Sapp sent a pass hard in front of goal and Ciabattoni stepped up to poke it past the Selbyville goalie. The last goal was scored by Sydney Jefferson, assisted by Ciabattoni. Selbyville's Kayler Townsend was credited with the lone goal for Selbyville.

Mariner traveled to Sussex Academy Oct. 5 and the Vikings walked away with another victory, winning 6-0 to improve their record to 4-0. Goals were scored by Sydney Jefferson, Samie Jacona (2), Reagan Ciabattoni, Jhayden Holloman and Lindsay Rambo. Assists were credited to Reagan Ciabattoni, Lori Sapp (2) and Molly Mendes. The defense combination of Sommer Dorman, Emma Duffield and Samantha Connors shut down all attempts from Sussex Academy to get into the Vikings’ goal. Midfielders controlling the game were Kelly Bragg, Samie Jacona and Mackinzie Brown.

The Mariner Vikings will try to make it 5-0 when they host Seaford Monday, Oct. 10.
