Marketing for writers class set Nov 14, register by Nov. 4

October 28, 2016
Registration has begun for A Friendly Introduction to Marketing, to be hosted by the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild from noon to 2:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14, at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior on Bay Vista Road (behind Big Fish Grille) in Rehoboth. Registration closes Friday, Nov. 4, and participants will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis. The costs is $30.

The seminar, taught by Ilona Holland and Ginny Daly, came about when the women found themselves sharing their experiences as first-time self-promoters of just-released books. They decided to team up to present a class to the writers guild, as well as other interested writers, on what it takes to market published books on a large and small scale.

Holland's book, “Buddy Bison's Yellowstone Adventure,” was written for children ages 5-9 and published by National Geographic in partnership with National Park Trust. She retired from the faculty at Harvard Graduate School of Education to devote her undivided attention to writing. She will share her experiences working with a large publishing company and promoting her book that came out earlier this year. She will include information about social media with an emphasis on clarifying the differences among platforms and what can be expected from each.

“The Guest Book! The A to Z of Guestiquette,” co-authored by Ginny Daly and Ellen Collins, was published by DEVA Press of Rehoboth Beach. Daly's career has been in marketing, first in New York City and then in Washington, D.C., heading Daly Direct Marketing, a creative boutique with national blue-chip clients primarily in publishing. For 12 years, she was media spokesperson for the online industry. Beside her marketing and media expertise, Daly will share her new-found adventures in self-promotion. She will highlight the steps in planning promotional events and what to expect from book signings.

Daly and Holland will also include time to field questions and facilitate a lively discussion around promotion and marketing. For more information or to register, email fischer.maribet@gmail.com.
