Mary Alice Isaacs, retired bookkeeper

Mary Alice Isaacs, 87, of Ellendale, passed away peacefully after a short illness Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018.

She was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Joseph Fillmore and Ada Mae Burroughs.

She was a graduate of Pittsville High School in Maryland and Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington. Mary Alice was the bookkeeper, handling all the accounts and transactions for The Isaacs and Sons family business.

Nothing meant more to her than her family. She enjoyed traveling and site-seeing with her husband and friends, visiting nearly every state. She also enjoyed going out to restaurants and playing cards and dominos with her friends on a regular basis. She thoroughly enjoyed wintering with family and friends at their vacation home in Ft. Myers, Fla.

She was a past matron and life member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Georgetown. She was one of the original charter members of The Women's Club of Milton (formerly known as The Milton Century Club). Mary Alice was a member of Ellendale United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and was currently a member of Goshen United Methodist Church in Milton.

In addition to her parents, she is preceeded in death by her husband, Earle L. Isaacs in 2003; and her son-in-law Hugh Rowan in 2014.

She is survived by one son, David E. Isaacs and wife Christina of Milton; two daughters, Lynne I. Rowan and Bill Reddish, also of Milton; and Susan I. Beck and husband Keith of Arlington, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Cathi Riddle, David Isaacs Jr., Robbie Isaacs, Jennifer Rowan, Matthew Rowan, Sarah Rowan-Hostetler, Steven Rowan, Chase Graham, Hunter Graham and Ashlyn Graham; a stepgranddaughter, Tina Farmer; as well as 18 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St. Milton, with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary Alice's memory are suggested to Compassionate Care Hospice, 20165 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
