Mary I. Holliday, retired teacher

Mary I. Holliday, 82, of Ocean View, formerly of Blackwood, N.J., entered into God's eternal rest Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Camden, N.J., Jan. 9, 1936, daughter of the late Andrew Karwan and Jozefa (Bolesinga) Karwan. Mary graduated from the Drexel Institute of Technology and served as a long-term substitute school teacher before retiring to Delaware in 1990.

Mary was a lifetime member of both the Blackwood and Millville volunteer fire company ladies auxiliary. She loved traveling the country with her family and antiquing. Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Ihlenfeld; a grandson, Howard John Magee III; and a brother-in-law, Robert Dera.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 61 ½ years, Albert D. Holliday; two children, Albert (Sharlene) Holliday of Langhorne, Pa., and Marianne (Howard John Jr.) Magee of Carney's Point, N.J.; two sisters, Emilia Dera of Ocean View and Vickie (Jim) Gudaitis of Florissant, Colo.; and a brother-in-law, Eddie (Peggy) Holliday of Blackwood. Mary is also survived by seven grandchildren, Raymond (Crystal) Mathews, Jeffrey Pickerton, Joey Lamb, Daniel (Andrea) Magee, Mary Ann Magee, Nicole (Todd) Lenz and Lauren Holliday; and five great-grandchildren, Raymond, Kalib, Liana, Temperance and Dimitri.

With much gratitude the family wishes to thank the staff at Atlantic Shores Rehabilitation & Health Center for the compassionate and loving environment for Mary.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, where the funeral service will begin at noon. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro.

In lieu of flowers,, the family suggests memorial contributions in Mary's name to the Millville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, 35554 Atlantic Ave., Millville, DE 19967.
