Mayor-elect thanks voters of Rehoboth

August 18, 2017

I would like to take a moment to thank all voters of the City of Rehoboth Beach who took advantage of our constitutionally given right and voted for their candidates Aug. 12. I know I do not need to tell you how significant this election was. The results mean we will turn a page; it will be a time for new beginnings.

I believe every one of the candidates ran very respectful campaigns, and the entire election season provided a great opportunity for each of the contestants to air their thoughts and ideas about our small community. I would like to congratulate each candidate on their willingness to provide service to the city for which they care so much. I would like to especially thank Mayor Sam Cooper for the many years of service he has provided for our entire community.

In an interview after the election, Mayor Cooper mentioned he knows the answer to many questions; I hope he will be available to help. After all, this is not just about a new beginning; it's also about continuity. Yes, there will be new initiatives and approaches, but there also needs to be the continued strength of administration from the other commissioners, working as a team, the city manager, the other city boards, commissions and committees.

I was extremely heartened by the support of the voters who took the time and effort to listen to my ideas and cast their vote for me. As I have said, I believe in an open, transparent and responsive government for all. I am committed to providing service to the entire community whether resident, property owner, business owner and/or visitor. Our small town continues to receive accolades and awards for how welcoming it is to all who come across the canal.

I plan to work with all in the community to make sure that our positive reputation continues. I intend to work with all of the commissioners, as equals, on all issues that affect our small town. I am committed to work with all sides of discussions in order to close any gaps, wherever possible, that may still divide us. We, the commissioners, cannot do it alone. We need neighbors and friends to come together for the benefit of the entire community.

Thank you again to the citizens of Rehoboth Beach for casting your votes for me this past Saturday. As I pledged during the campaign, I will represent all stakeholders in the community; I want to open the lines of communication and listen to what you have to say. Please contact me so we can begin to discuss your ideas and concerns.
