MGT and Company opens in Rehoboth

Clothing boutique offers casual and dress men’s clothes
October 23, 2017

A new men’s clothing store in Rehoboth Beach is looking to bring the style of Saville Row to Baltimore Avenue.

MGT and Co. owner Michael Thanner said the store is inspired by London toggery shops that carry small, independent lines of men’s shirts, socks, shoes, belts and ties. Thanner said MGT carries lines from both Europe and the United States.

“From casual to dress, I’ve got it covered,” Thanner said.

Having gone to school in Europe and lived in New York City, and Thanner said he was inspired by small haberdashery shops, particularly in England.

“The cool vibe, the aesthetic. That was a huge part of how I had this store decorated to give that feel of an old-school men’s shop. It doesn’t look like a normal store. The lines I sell, they complement the decor.”

Thanner, 27, said he grew up in the retail business - his mother had a shop and his grandfather sold cars - and always wanted to have his own store in Rehoboth. When he was growing up in Baltimore County, his parents had a vacation house in Fenwick Island, but he said he always enjoyed coming to Rehoboth for its charm and restaurants.

Thanner said he hopes MGT can become part of the community - he set up a booth for the CAMP Rehoboth block party Oct. 15 - and eventually open a second location.

MGT is open at 39 Baltimore Ave. from 10:10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Monday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday. For more information, visit mgtandco.com.
