Michael David Schierl, Apple Chiropractic owner

Michael David Schierl, 57, of Lewes, formerly of Spartanburg and Beaufort, S.C., passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017. He was born in Wilmington, July 23, 1960. He was the son of Ludwig O. and Alice (Amoroso) Schierl.

He graduated from the University of South Carolina and received his doctor of chiropractic degree from the Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg.

Michael was the owner of Apple Chiropractic in Millsboro for the last 15 years. In addition, his love for the sea inspired him to create Little Pirate Adventures of Chincoteague, Va., for children seeking adventures on the high seas in his pirate ship called the Kraken. Michael also enjoyed fishing, scuba diving and building cars. He was a free-spirited individual and will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

He is survived by his parents, "Lucky" and Alice Schierl of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Lisa Schierl Selvey and her husband Dave and two nephews, Joshua and Lucas Selvey all of Greensboro; three uncles, Vito Charles Amoroso Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., Joseph Amoroso and his wife Pauline of Newark, and Alfred Schierl and his wife Joan of Lititz, Pa.; and an aunt, Linda Olenderski and her husband John of Newark.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held Monday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m., at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after noon. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in the name of Michael D. Schierl and mailed to the Chincoteague Police Department - Operation Toy Drive, 6150 Community Dr., Chincoteague Island, VA 23336.
