Michele Anstine new director of Delaware Humanities Council

May 19, 2018

The Delaware Humanities Council has announced that Michele Anstine will lead the organization beginning June 18. She replaces Marilyn P. Whittington, who is retiring after 16 years of successful leadership.

Anstine, who currently serves as the assistant CEO and chief program officer for the Delaware Historical Society, brings 20 years of experience working in the humanities in Delaware. While at the George Read II House & Gardens, she held various leadership roles, raising nearly $2 million in funds to preserve and enhance one of the premiere Federalist homes and museum collections in the United States. She was a critical part of the successful campaign to designate the property as a National Historic Landmark. A native Delawarean, Anstine holds a bachelor of arts in history and a master of arts in liberal studies from the University of Delaware.

"Michele's proven record of programming, fundraising, and management make her an excellent choice for us," stated Humanities Council Board Chair Matthew Kinservik. "We hear a lot about how the humanities are in jeopardy, but Delaware Humanities enriches lives in our state through programming and grant funding, and Michele's talent and vision will continue to increase our impact at a time when it is most needed."

Delaware Humanities is the Delaware affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, providing educational and arts outreach, special projects, and funding opportunities to bring Delawareans together.
