Mickelsen exhibit opens at The Peninsula May 25

A joint venture with Rehoboth Art League
May 22, 2017

On Thursday, May 25, from 6 to 7 p.m., an opening reception will be held at The Peninsula on Indian River Bay for an exhibition titled Strength in Constant Motion, by Lewes-based artist Nina Mickelsen. This exhibition is a joint venture between the resort and the Rehoboth Art League. “The Peninsula Resort has been hosting art exhibitions for RAL member artists for over three years," said RAL Artistic Director Jay Pastore. "This location offers a wider audience to see the works of our talented artists."

As a Finland native, Mickelsen grew up with Nordic and Scandinavian design - bright colors, bold shapes, and crisp, strong lines. With inspiration from both nature and contemporary design, the works in this exhibition seek to convey strength and motion, and explore the juxtaposition of controlled shapes with natural free strokes. Mickelsen said, "Constant forward motion alleviates the discomfort of contradictions, of changes we make in our lives, whether voluntarily or forced."

After a long, international business career in both Europe and the U.S., Mickelsen went on to study printmaking, painting and graphic design at the Corcoran School of Art and Design, The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Her works are shown in galleries and juried art shows along the East Coast, from New York to Florida.

This exhibition is a private exhibition for members of the Peninsula Resort. However, anyone wishing to attend the opening reception or view this exhibition before it closes July 17 may contact Pastore at Jay@rehobothartleague.org with at least a 24-hour notice.

This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The division promotes Delaware arts events on DelawareScene.com.
