Mildred B. ‘Mickie’ Christfield, retired teacher

Mildred B. (Mickie) Christfield, 83, of Selbyville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017.
Mickie was a retired elementary school teacher of 40-plus years, teaching in Baltimore County, Md., and Sussex County. She was an avid reader and long time member of P.E.O. An active member of Mariner Bethel Church in Ocean View, Mickie sang in the choir, led home bible studies and coordinated the Bethany Beach weekday beach ministry for years. She loved the beach and was known to participate in the Polar Plunge with the Mariner Bethel group. Mickie was a graduate of the University of Delaware, Class of 1955, and earned her master's plus 60 in education at Towson State University.
She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara C. Cole (Lynn) of Hanover, Via., and Joanne C. Desien (Nick) of Milwaukee, Wis.; five grandchildren, Raven and Ramsey Cole, and Nicholas, Christopher and Michelle Desien; brothers Joseph Hudson and Robert Hudson; sister Freda Burton; and many, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; and the kind and loving nurses and caregivers on the Reflections unit at Brandywine Senior Living, Fenwick Island.
The family will receive visitors from 10 to 11 a.m., with a memorial ceremony at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View. Burial will be private.
