Milton ceremony memorializes Sept. 11

September 18, 2017

Remembering the events of Sept.11, 2001, on Sept. 9, community members gathered in Milton Memorial Park to remember bravery, courage and humanity shown on that day 16 years ago.

John Hopkins, Milton Fire Department president, led members of the community in thoughts from that day and what has been learned about this country since then. The service included raising of the flag, performances by the Delaware State Police Pipes and Drums Unit, blessings from local church leaders and speeches from Capt. Glenn Dixon, Delaware State Police; Lt. Col. Mike Orlando, Army National Guard; and Secretary Robert Coupe, Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security.  Memorial wreaths were placed in the Broadkill River in honor of those lost.

DSP Capt. Glenn Dixon remarked that the most memorable thing about that event was the heroic efforts of not only the first responders but everyday people.
