Milton Garden Club thanks community

January 23, 2018

The Milton Garden Club would like to thank everyone who helped make the 2017 Hollyfest a success for us. We couldn't have done it without the support of all those who purchased wreaths, greens, arrangements, and other items from us. Just as important are all those who donated greens to us or allowed us to cut greens from their property. Then there are the garden club members and their friends and families who helped put everything together for the sale.

Many volunteer organizations have trouble getting their members to help, and we do sometimes, but I'm happy to report that over 90 percent of our active members helped with Hollyfest in some way.

In 2003 the club made one Williamsburg-style magnolia/boxwood wreath. It sold immediately, and each year we increased the number of wreaths and the type of wreaths for sale. In 2017 we made and sold 103 different kinds of fresh green wreaths.

It is a tremendous amount of work in a short period of time as our members design and make all of the wreaths from freshly cut greens. The reward for our work is well worth it as we use the profit from this event to help with the cost of the two $3,000 scholarships we give to local students.

The winning ticket for the 2017-18 dessert-of-the-month was drawn at the close of Hollyfest, and the winner is Doreen Becker of Lincoln. She had purchased her tickets the Thursday before Hollyfest and was thrilled with winning.

She had this to say about winning, "What a great time to win cookies. My family truly enjoyed them and everyone is looking forward to all the great desserts throughout the year."

The 2018-19 dessert-of-the-month campaign will officially kick off in May.

The Milton Garden Club is looking forward to 2018 as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. We are planning some special events beginning with our Spring Door Decorating Contest in April. More information will be released soon.

Our 2018 Garden Tour will be in the fall again (date released soon) and will be a walking tour of Union Street. Be sure to come see these beautiful hidden gardens dressed for fall.

Other events are in the planning stages and details are forthcoming.

Again thanks to everyone who supports us, and Happy Gardening to all of you.

director, Milton Garden Club
