Milton Historical Society welcomes new director

Kim Fabbri hopes to engage community with history
July 14, 2016

After months of searching for the perfect candidate, the Milton Historical Society has chosen a young historian to take the reins at the Lydia B. Cannon Museum in downtown Milton.

MEET THE NEW DIRECTOR
The Milton Historical Society will host a reception welcoming Kim Fabbri from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 22, at the Lydia Black Cannon Museum on Union Street in Milton. Please RSVP by Monday, Aug. 15, by calling 302-684-1010 or emailing info@historicmilton.org.

Kim Fabbri, a New York native, took over as the society's newest executive director in July, and said she hopes to expand the reach of the museum to engage more locals and visitors in the history of Milton.

“I want to make this even more of a community space than it already is and make sure we have new opportunities for people,” she said. “I'd love to get more people involved in the life of the historical society.”

Fabbri said her love for history began at an early age, recalling her grandfather's stories from his time as a World War II veteran.

“I always grew up as kind of our family's historian. I always wanted to know where my grandparents came from and how they got to where they were, and I would document it,” Fabbri said. “My family was a big part of what made me excited about history. We can learn so much from the past as a way to move forward in an intentional way in the future.”

Fabbri, a 32-year-old who now lives in Lewes, received her undergraduate degree in history and political science from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., followed by a master's degree in history from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., and plans to receive her doctorate from Lehigh University this fall.

While studying history, Fabbri said, she worked various part-time jobs in volunteer services and programming at her schools, as well as fundraising for the Catholic Center at New York University. Fabbri also was a teaching assistant for history classes at both King’s College and Lehigh University.
