Milton PD recognizes the fallen and their families

April 19, 2018

Milton Police Chief Robert Longo wanted a way to let the families of Delaware’s fallen officers know that they are not forgotten. The result is a mural listing the police officers in Delaware who lost their lives in the line of duty. Arena Signs owner Ed Martin and graphic designer Hilary Mitchell stepped up to create the poster that will live in the front window of the Milton Police Department.

Susan Shea, vice president of Concerns of Police Survivors organization and wife of officer Christopher Shea, who was killed in the line of duty in 2004, said family members fade into normalcy after a while. This mural shows that they are remembered forever. When she participates in a COPS event or other memorial events she feels like a part of a large, unique family. Shea said she gets a smile when she drives through town, and peeks over to see her husband’s image on the mural along with the other fallen officers.

June Rose Futcher is a supporter of COPS and participates in memorials for fallen officers. Her grandfather is listed on the memorial.

“These officers gave their lives for Delawareans; the families carry that legacy and show incredible resiliency. This is a small way to show respect,” said Longo.
